Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was founded by Kulapati Dr. K. M. Munshi - a great philosopher, statesman, educationist, solicitor and above all, a visionary. Established nearly a decade before the advent of modern India,`The Bhavan' as it is fondly called, was then and still is "A Mini-India".
During the last six decades and more of its existence, 'The Bhavan' has blossomed into an ever growing, voluntary, apolitical national movement with an international outlook devoted to life, literature and culture. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, when he visited The Bhavan in 1950, observed: "The Bhavan's Programmes cover all aspects of life - from cradle to grave and beyond
The Bhavan, from its modest beginnings, has grown into a comprehensive all-India intellectual, cultural and educational movement.
Bhavan's College, Andheri (W)
Kulapati Munshiji created many centers of learning and culture.Bhavan's College, situated in the heart of Mumbai is one of The Bhavan's first institute of higher education. The foundation stone of the college was laid by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and the College was inaugurated by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1946. In 2005-2006 the College celebrated its DIAMOND JUBILEE
The College, affiliated to the University of Mumbai, offers courses leading to a Bachelor's Degree in all the three streams, viz. Arts, Commerce and Science. In the stream of science, students are admitted to programmes leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D.The College has a strong faculty of 100 eminent and versatile teachers with over 40% having a Doctorate Degree and arround 10% involved in offering consultancy services. However the main strength of the College is the large number of students,since the last few years the College is registering about 9000 plus students per year.
Over the last two decades, industry and commerce in the entire nation in general and in the commercial capital of India - OUR MUMBAI - in particular, has witnessed a paradigm shift due to technology and media. University of Mumbai, hereafter referred
to as the University, has taken a timely decision to introduce Self Financing Courses (SFC) to meet the demands of the changing requirements of the industry, commerce and the society as a whole. From the year of inception of these courses in the University, Bhavan's College has the proud privilege to offer the following courses:

Bachelor of Management Studies (Since 1999)
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Since 2001)
Bachelor of Mass Media (Since 2002)
Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology (Since 2002)
Master of Science in Computer Science (Since 2002)
With the introduction of these Self Financing courses in the College, to meet the increasing demands on the infrastructure, an additional facility has been made available by the College management. Newly introduced courses are being conducted in a separate building.
